Yixian East is the practical rail gateway for Hongcun

Hongcun is a UNESCO-listed Huizhou village in Yixian County, Anhui, known for its whitewashed houses, reflective ponds and the moon pond at the centre of the village.

Yixian East is the closest practical high-speed rail station. The railway journey is only the first part; travellers still need a local bus or taxi to the village.

This guide uses the same Yixian East gateway for direct services from Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Hefei, Nanchang, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

After arriving at Yixian East, follow signs for the local bus or taxi pickup area. Confirm the correct stop for Hongcun before boarding, because the village is outside Yixian town.

Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hefei and Nanchang have the most straightforward direct connections in the current snapshot. Suzhou, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen also have direct trains, but service is limited.

Shangrao travellers should first travel to Huangshan North and then continue to Yixian East. The station is also the practical rail gateway for Xidi, so a two-village itinerary can use the same railway hub.

Huangshan North also has tourist buses toward Xidi and Hongcun and more external train services. It can be the better choice when Yixian East timing is inconvenient, even though the road transfer is longer.

Hongcun is a heritage village with timed visitor arrangements in some seasons. Check the official ticket, opening and reservation information before arrival.
