Choose your gate before boarding the train

Huangshan North Station lies on the Huangshan city side and south of the mountain, while the scenic area’s South Gate transfer center at Tangkou is to the north-northwest. The railway does not go up the mountain, so the final section uses the tourist bus network.

The adjacent Huangshan Tourism Passenger Transport Center serves the South Gate and East Gate. The South Gate is the classic approach through Tangkou; the East Gate offers a newer alternative with its own ropeway.

For the classic route, take the South Gate bus from Huangshan North and start from the Tangkou transfer center. For the newer eastern approach, use the East Gate tourist line and plan around its limited daily departures.

From Zhangjiajie, travel first to Changsha South and continue to Huangshan North. From Hong Kong, compare the single direct train with the much broader Shenzhen North connection pattern.

Huangshan involves stairs, steep trails and changing weather. Match your train arrival with the bus schedule, reserve park entry in advance, and keep enough buffer for the ropeway and mountain transfers.
