Zhangjiajie West is the rail gateway, not the Wulingyuan entrance

Wulingyuan is the UNESCO-listed scenic area around Zhangjiajie, known for its sandstone pillars, forested valleys and the landscapes popularised by the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

The railway does not reach the scenic entrance. Zhangjiajie West is the main high-speed gateway, but travellers still need a local bus, shuttle or taxi for the final road transfer.

This guide covers direct rail options and practical transfer hubs for origins across Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangdong, Guangxi, eastern China, Hong Kong and Yunnan.

After arriving at Zhangjiajie West, follow signs for the Wulingyuan bus, tourist shuttle or taxi pickup area. Confirm whether your hotel is closer to the Wulingyuan entrance or another gate before boarding.

Changsha, Fenghuang, Furongzhen, Chongqing and Guangzhou have the strongest direct options in the current snapshot. Chengdu, Shenzhen, Guilin, Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Hong Kong also have direct trains, but service is more limited.

Leshan and Emeishan can transfer through Chengdu or Chongqing. Xi'an travellers can use Chongqing for more onward services. Guilin, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Huangshan, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shenzhen and Luoyang can use Changsha South for more train choices. Yangshuo travellers should first go to Guilin, while Kunming, Dali and Lijiang should use Huaihua South for the onward connection.

From Zhuhai, the simplest path is a direct train to Changsha South and a change for Zhangjiajie. Macau travellers should cross to Zhuhai first. Nanning has a limited direct service, so Guilin or Changsha South can provide more options.
